Growing up in a large Italian family in New Jersey, food has always been central to Chef Kerry’s life. It wasn’t until she got injured playing Division 1 lacrosse in college that she had to rethink her future. That summer she spent her time working at Flemings Prime Steak house and Wine Bar where she started out as a hostess at night and found her way into the kitchen as a prep and pastry cook in the mornings. Throughout that summer she cultivated her skills and love for cooking; quickly realizing that this passion for food was something she could not deny. Kerry went on to change her career trajectory and enrolled in The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY. Graduating with honors in August of 2011. Returning back to New Jersey after graduation she worked as a sous chef for a corporate catering company. Missing the hustle and bustle of restaurants she turned her attention to the fine dining world and worked as a pastry chef at The Capital Grille.
During this time Chef Kerry worked on acquiring her teaching certification in Culinary Arts and found placement at the county high school where she went on to teach culinary and pastry arts for four years. Kerry and her family found themselves transplanted to Novelty, Ohio for her husband’s job. She was captivated by Loretta’s journey and the growth of ICASI and knew she wanted to be part of this incredible school. Chef Kerry is excited to continue to share her love for the Pastry world and looks forward to nurturing the creative minds of young culinarians to show that the food industry has a place for everyone. Her culinary point of view is to utilize her classic French training, honor her old world family traditions and blend them together with a modern twist. When Chef Kerry is not teaching you will find her in her own kitchen with her husband who is a chef for Nestle and their three young children. Kerry is eager to become part of the community here at ICASI and the small town of Chesterland.
